Modify McCall's Pattern 8962Fabric ChoicesOkay, this one is for those of you who've been chafing against the restriction against using knit... For the overdress you want to use a strech velvet or other knit fabric. The underdress should be of a lighter knit than the overdress. Color is up to you, but jewel tones and muted earth tones are best. Basic ModificationsThe only change you need to make to this pattern is to the length of the hems. Extend the hem on each gown to ankle-length. That's it! Extra Credit:To make this outfit more authentic make two additional changes. First, use a non-knit fabric more appropriate to the period (linen for the underdress and velvet for the overdress). Second, put a 24 inch zipper in the back of each dress (you may need to add a back seam if it doen't have one already). |
