Keefe was born in the wilds of Ireland to a line of huntsmen. He was hired as the hunt master of an English lord and was getting on well enough until the country turned Anglican and his Catholic lord was killed and his lands siezed. Keefe was used as the quarry in a hunt by the English for their amusement, but his woodscraft was too great for his pursuers. He led them a merry chase and then killed them one by one. Keefe lived by his skill in the wilds as an outlaw, eventually drawing notice of Sabine Aureolus, who made him her child so that his skills could be used in the service of the Bloodkin.
Keefe remained in the Brittish Isles looking for threats to the Bloodkin and for fit allies in this work, eventually working in co-operation with the newly established House Rose. Lady Rose found his skills to be a great asset and offered him the position of Thorn (after her previous Thorn got himself immolated by an ancient god of the Bloodkin), a great honor and responsibility, although very different from the roaming kind of life he knew best. He traveled to France along with representatives of Lady Rose to discuss this proposal with Lady Sabine, and during his stay discovered that her laws did not really suit him as well as those of House Rose (the Aureolus's House edict against killing mortals). Lady Sabine decided to allow her childe the freedom to serve Rose as a symbol of cooperation between their Houses with the stipulation that he be free to leave her service if he did not find it suitable. All seemed to be going well on the return to England until Keefe failed a test of Rose's and in her rage she shipped him off (along with mister Gorie) to become the plaything of a vivisectionist.
Keefe and Gorie are now travel companions in the new world, trying to make their way on the high seas.....
