Proclamation from The Tyrant's Voice:
"The Tyrant will be holding an open Court on the evening of Saturday, January 30th. All those with urgent business to be addressed by Our Lady shall make themselves know to the Tyrant's Voice. All newcomers to the domain of Our Lady shall be prepared to present themselves and petition for Her most benevolent protection and guidance."
What is a Tyrant?:
The Tyrant is the head vampire in a domain. A vampire becomes Tyrant by climbing up the social and political ladder; disgracing rivals, making alliances, and gathering a group of powerful and (hopefully) loyal courtiers around themselves. Vampires with Tyrant potential are usually already Lords. (Lords are founders of their own Houses.) Once a vampire has risen to power they proclaim or cause others to proclaim that they are the new Tyrant. The reign of any one Tyrant doesn't usually last very long, maybe a year or two, after which another powerful Lord gains ascendancy and deposes the old Tyrant. These usurptations do not always require the death of the previous Tyrant, they are usually a natural result of shifting alliances and burning political issues.
What is Court?:
Many Tyrants hold Court. Court is a gathering of the important vampires in the domain, including the Tyrant and the Courtiers. The Tyrant presides over the Court like a feudal monarch; hearing and settling disputes, acknowledging visitors to the domain, and announcing new laws and policies. The Tyrant's Courtiers will usually take a hand in screening petitioners and advising the Tyrant. Aside from their other duties, the main role of the Courtier is to set an example for the way the Tyrant is to be treated and how others should behave while in Court.
