Birth Name: Beatrice Patricia Wilhelmina Bradford, called "B" by her friends and admirers
Vampire Birth Name: Brocade, still called "B" by her Sire
Current Use Name: Darcy Farrow, called "D" by most
Basic Facts
Vampire Courtier Born in 1764 in England Turned in 1784 by Antonio of Lord Rogan's House Psyche-based character with few fighting skills, but good mental disciplines
Character Concept
Bored socialite of regency London gets a little too brave, plays (unknowingly) with Vampiric fire, gets burned and turned in the same night. Her Sire is a pampered and devious childe of a powerful Lord. Very shortly after her Turning an Archon investigates her Sire and executes him, then takes her to the court of her Sire's Lord. She moves to America with her House in the early 19th century.
D is basically a nice girl; good-hearted, charming, spirited, and somewhat selfish, but not usually to the point of malice. She clings to many of the social precepts and ideals popular when she was alive, but is a total technophile. She likes partying, gossiping, presents from her beaus, and of course, petty court intrigue. She holds a grudge very, very well, but even her enemies has difficulty telling because her revenge is never direct. D has no problems with her self-esteem or self-image because she knows she's special. She doesn't know how or why she's special, just that she is. And no one else's opinion of her can change that. She is a very strong-willed and generally self-confident person.
Timeline
1764 to 1782 - Upbringing as the Perfect Lady (age 0-18)
Beatrice was born in the English countryside in the year 1764 to wealthy, landed, and titled parents. Beatrice lived the stereotypical life of the British aristocrat. She was spoiled, pampered, and indulged by both her parents, most especially by her father. Most well bred girls were launched into the marriage market by the time they turned 15 or 16, depending upon how badly their parents either wanted to get rid of them and/or could afford all the trappings and a decent dowry. Beatrice's father wanted to keep her home and to himself for as long as possible because he knew that once she entered Society she would get married and leave him, so she didn't get her introduction into Society until she was 18.
1782 to 1784 - Life on the Ton (age 18-20)
When Beatrice (called B by her friends and admirers) finally did have her Coming Out she was a raging success. The Ton labeled her an "Original" for her eccentricities and clever manner. Her father settled on Sir Mallory, a poor but extremely well bred cousin, as a suitable escort and chaperone for those times when he didn't want to ferry her through her social rounds of an evening. D had always liked her "Uncle" Mallory for the hint of mischief behind his oh-so-proper facade. Like any good chaperone, Mallory was hated by serious and casual suitors alike. B's father was inundated with offers for her hand. But B found no man entirely to her liking and her father (for a variety of reasons) kept looking for a better and better match, never satisfied that any of her suitors we good enough (or rich enough) for his little darling, so the middle of her third Season found her still unmarried.
1784 - Dueling Suitors & Embrace (age 20)
The highlight of B's social career was when she finally managed to obtain an invitation to one of the balls in honor of the Prince Regent. B had convinced herself that if she could only obtain entrance to a Royal fete, she would at last meet the man of her dreams, fall madly in love with him, and live happily ever after in the lap of luxury.
Instead, she met Anton and Marcus. Anton Sigurtson was obviously descended from some Nordic god of strength and beauty. Prince Marcus was darkly handsome; his charm tinted with an edge of danger that no girl could resist. And to put the frosting on the cake, these two amazing men seemed to be competing for her affections. Both were charismatic, good-looking, and obviously wealthy. Both seemed quite sincere in there wish to win her. How could her head not be turned? Her cousin Mallory was immediately suspicious of the two suitors (he recognized them as vampires, wayward and spoiled children of the powerful continental Lord Rogan).
The tug of war continued for several months, until it was one of the favorite topics of Ton gossip. B relished being the center of so much attention, but knew that it would not last, the members of the ton being the fickle creatures that they were. Very soon her father received offers from both of her ardent suitors. Her father accepted Anton's suit, Marcus though a Prince, was a Catholic and therefore unsuitable.
The night of B and Anton's Engagement Ball, Marcus spirited B away into the garden and introduced her to the pleasures of the flesh. B was so enthralled that she barely noticed her body's death throes amid the waves of pleasure. Mallory, hot on the couple's heals, was held at bay by Anton who admitted, not at all guiltily that he had "lost the toss". Mallory signaled his gang of Witchfinders and attacked. Anton was killed in the struggle, but Marcus and B escaped.
1784 to 1792 - Princess of the Blood
Marcus spirited B away and made her his bride. Marcus concocted a fantasy tale of those "of the Blood". In making her his bride she became a Queen of the Blood, supernaturally pure and superior to all mankind. She embraced the tale and lived blissfully for many years in Marcus's domains in Italy.
1792 - The Scarlet Pimpernel
On orders from his Lord and Sire, Marcus traveled to Paris. The French Revolution was in full swing and Rogan's plans included getting rid of a few of his Parisian rivals masked by the general violence and confusion. Marcus told B none of this, concocting for her another tale of "rescuing" those of the Blood from the murderous peasants. B was instrumental in gathering information and setting up meetings between Marcus and the nobles in hiding.
Mallory, now servitor to a Justicar, ran into B in Paris while investigating the mysterious deaths of several prominent Parisian vampire Lords. B was overjoyed to have Mallory's company once more (Paris was dreadfully dreary, not at all the place for a gently-reared lady). She revealed to him all of her husband's "plans" to rescue the beleaguered royalty and nobles. During these revelations Mallory learned enough to find evidence of Marcus's true activities, and managed to use B to set a trap for her lover. Marcus announced that their work was nearly complete and made preparations for their departure. B left the city and waited for her love in the appointed place, only to be shocked and alarmed when the "noble" Marcus smuggled out of the city turned out to be Mallory in disguise. Marcus and Mallory fought, but the match was unfair because Mallory was in possession of a talisman of Lord Rogan which prevented Marcus from striking at him. Mallory beheaded Marcus and B fainted dead away.
1792 to 1832 - Life as a Courtier
Mallory escorted B to Lord Rogan's court, where Marcus's crimes were confirmed and B was taken into the House. Upon her acceptance into the House she was gifted with the name Brocade. She continued to encourage people to call her B.
1832 - Sabine Visits Rogan's Court
The Lady Sabine of the recently fallen House Aureolus took refuge in Rogan's court. B and Sabine commiserated over the horror was Paris during the French Revolution.
1882 - Meeting on a Train
During the migration of Lord Rogan's House across America, B met a young house-less vampire named Father John. Finding that he knew practically nothing about Society, she took him under her wing and introduced him to the basics.
1905 - Political Intrigue
The moment Rogan's household arrived in San Francisco Rogan began the task of taking over the Society of the area.
1907 - Earthquake
After the devastating earthquake the current Tyrant of San Francisco, Lady Sabine, was found lacking in coping skills and was easily displaced by Lord Rogan. D was now in the entourage of a ruling Lord Tyrant, a position she found very suitable.
1907 to present - San Francisco Courtier
Just prior to the recent great Silicon Valley War, D was having great time juggling lovers and admirers from amongst all three of the major local houses. She was sleeping with Lord Tyrant Rogan of San Francisco, Lord Maximillian of San Jose, and one of Josephine of San Jose's favorite Toys.
At the start of the war, D was pouting because everyone was caught up in the political and racial tensions, which meant that no one was paying attention to her. She decided to try and make her lovers jealous by creating a Child of her very own. Problem was that the only guy that caught her fancy and showed enough interest in her turned out to be a government investigator of some kind. She quickly hid his ashes and tried not to look too embarrassed. On his body she found a vial of blood, it's vampire blood but she doesn't know whose, so she's afraid to get rid of it in case it could be used to her advantage. As far as she knows, this is just her own private little secret, but she worries that the disappearance of this agent may have caused a slight breach in the Masquerade.
After the war fizzled out due to a distinct lack of surviving combatants, D decided it was time to acquire a human Pet. Very furry, but definitely human. She spends a great deal of time socializing with Lady Sabine's household, as she is the only Vamp of means left in the area with any sense of style. Well, okay, she's pretty much the only real Lord left in the area at all, but that doesn't mean her parties are any less entertaining or tasteful. So D is where she always wanted to be; listed amongst the crème de la crème of Society, and very happily so.
Contributions to Main Storyline
- Shit disturber & nearly compulsive rumor-monger
- Involuntary "Chosen One"
- An inadvertent & clueless, but de-facto proto-Lord of the local area
Special/Pre-Existing Relationships
- Uncle Mallory : Sort of a father- or uncle-figure. D is very fond of him because he was so nice and such a gentleman around the time of her turning. He was a real friend when she desperately needed one and didn't even know it. Also, he didn't kill her even when he had the chance to do it with impunity.
- Hikaru Daishine : D's favorite pet human. She won't turn him because (a) she likes having a live human to play with whenever she wants, and (b) she already made one Childer and that was quite enough, thank you. Darcy thinks of Hikaru as a cross between "flirtable plaything" and "servant", certainly not as an equal.
- Father John (NPC): A mildly entertaining vampire childe.
- Jaron (NPC) : The government agent D offed.
- Lady Sabine DeLecroix : relationship yet to be determined
- Grace Jackson : relationship yet to be determined
Short Term Goals
- Avoid being bored.
- Find out whose blood is in the vial.
- Prevent the fact that you thralled, then killed a government agent during the war from becoming known.
- Determine Hikaru's (Tom) true feelings and intent towards you.
Long Term Goals
- Survive the weekend.
- Find the perfect mate.
- Strengthen your position (chances of surviving the big re-org) by creating/nurturing personal and political relationships with other characters.
- Avoid being stuck in a menial and/or lowly position in the new power structure. Strive to be left with as much autonomy and as little responsibility as possible without being cut adrift entirely.
- Attain the position of most popular and esteemed social butterfly in vampire society.
Deep Dark Damaging Secrets
During the war D killed a government agent.
