Timeline
2767 to 2759 - Childhood (age 0-8)
Nahme was born in Egypt at the beginning of the Old Kingdom. He was born into the Priest caste, and as such, was raised sheltered from the struggles of everyday life.
2759 to 2751 - Apprenticeship (age 8-16)
On his eighth birthday Nahme left the nursery and entered training for the Priesthood. He spent the rest of his boyhood learning his role in life, as ordained by his birth. Nahme developed into a serious young man with a sincere belief in the religious doctrines of his people. In his youth he made friends with a boy of lesser caste, Makrew, who shared his enthusiasm for tactical games. Nahme was both draw to and repulsed by Makrew's honest and easy-going nature. Makrew never spoke much, but when he did his simple observations would always strike to the heart of Nahme's difficulties.
2751 to 2743 - Novice Priest (age 16-24)
Nahme was a young, enthusiastic and idealistic priest with an unshakable belief in the structure of the universe as defined by the priesthood. Nahme performed his novice duties of fetching and carrying with a stoic respect of tradition and his place in it. It was during his time as a novice that Nahme had the opportunity to first see the Pharaoh. The Pharaoh's incomprehensible glory instilled in Nahme a sense of unconditional and unconscious awe. Nahme's pride in the greatness of the Pharaoh and his own place in the workings of the universe was deeply ingrained during his novicehood. One of Nahme's duties as a novice was to tutor young noblewomen, nurturing and instilling in them a kind of spiritual purity and understanding of their place in the grand scheme of the universe. The silliness of the girls at first confused Nahme, until he became familiar with the intelligent and thoughtful young Nefret. Their association developed into a strange sort of friendship, with Nefret displacing her affection for her twin brother (who was also a young priest) onto Nahme, and Nahme seeing her dispassionately as the ideal of womanly virtue.
2743 to 2737 - Priest (age 24-30)
As a full Priest, Nahme continued to solidify his beliefs as each new Mystery of the Priesthood was revealed to him. His vibrant idealism evolved into a hardened core of belief in "how things are". He married an appropriate noblewoman and produced several sons for his caste. In addition to his regular duties, Nahme continued to display an aptitude for mentoring young apprentices and novices.
2737 - The Ascension of Pharaoh Djoser (age 30)
Eventually Nahme's father died, opening to him a place in the Pharaoh's retinue. Nahme became a part of the inner workings of the Pharaoh's household. He began his career within the temple's elite performing simple tasks, but his competence and dedication soon propelled him into more and more important positions.
In that year Nahme witnessed first-hand the ascension of the old Pharaoh's heir, Djozer. The ceremony was awe inspiring. The God-Light of the old Pharaoh manifested like a radiant bird of supreme beauty and transferred to the body of Djozer, leaving the Pharaoh's old body a used husk. It was then that Nahme truly understood the immortal splendor of the Never Dying One, the Great and Radiant One, the God-King of all Egypt for all Time... The Pharaoh.
2736 to 2728 - Elder Priest & Diplomat (age 31-39)
One of Nahme's duties as a priest of the Pharaoh's court was diplomatic liaison. The sprawling beaurocrasy that was Egypt's diplomatic corps was ruled by the priests of the Pharaoh's inner circle. Nahme was periodically required to travel to the barbarous lands outside of Egypt. These voyages were a great trial, requiring every ounce of Nahme's patience and fortitude to deal with the horrible conditions and general unmannerliness prevalent outside of his civilized homeland. Nahme's diplomatic duties opened his eyes to the strangeness of the Gods of other peoples. The Gods of Egypt were varied and glorious, evident in the arch of heaven, the fruitful silty soil, the swollen river, the plethora of animals... all with a purity of purpose and content in their proper place in the universe, all crowned by the radiance of the God-King manifest on Egypt's gilded throne. The Gods of other peoples were different. They were divisive, contentious, petty and cruel. They too had Gods manifest on Earth, but these Gods were Gods of things not divine... they did not rule or guide or nurture their nations... they plundered them. The Gods of the Macedonians were simple-minded, concerned only with their own pleasures. The Gods of Ur and Sumer were harsh, demanding that there was equal amount dark as light in the universe, and that dark must be fought for light to reign. And the Gods of the sea-farers were concerned only with coin. A strange and vile concept crept into Nahme's consciousness. The idea that Gods were not perfect. That a God could be somehow less than what he had always believed the Pharaoh to be.
2728 to 2722 - The Beginning of the End (age 39-45)
Time came for Djozer to choose a bride. Nahme proposed Nefret because of her perfect qualities of poise, intelligence and propriety. The council of High Priests chose Nefret and Nahme, as her sponsor, was given the honor of informing her. Nefret was properly appreciative, but Nahme noticed an almost imperceptible sorrow in her at the news. Nefret's ascension ceremony was nearly as spectacular as Djozer's. This time only a small piece of the Pharaoh's Godhood left his body and entered that of his new Queen, but that tiny fragment was enough to transform her into radiance. Nahme shed tears of joy for Nefret, for she had attained perfection.
Soon after Nefret's ascension her twin brother, the priest Anfret, came to Nahme troubled. Anfret was disturbed by Nefret's transformation. Nahme tried to comfort him, but Anfret demanded that Nefret's true being had been destroyed by the ascension. Nahme, plagued by memories of the foreign Gods, began to research in the most secret of holy books the true nature of the Pharaoh of Egypt. From his readings and the influence of Anfret's doubts, Nahme delved into the unpleasant inner truth of the Gods. He found that they were, in many ways, in many instances, no better than men. Previous incarnations of the Pharaoh had been as, if not more, petty and cruel than the worst of the foreign Gods. He found that the fate and orderly existence of the universe was ruled by an imperfect being!
Nahme became involved with Anfret and a covert group of priests intent on purifying the Pharaoh's being, leaving him truly and purely divine. The group developed a cleansing ritual of great power and set about planning to perform it. They enlisted the chief architect Imotep in creating the necessary auspicious alignment of stone and stars to ensure the success of the rite. They spent years experimenting and developing the purifications of body and soul so essential to the ultimate purpose of the rite.
2721 - The Year of the Fall (age 46)
Eventually all was in readiness, the most auspicious moment was at hand, and the group acted to preserve the holiness and perfection of the Pharaoh for all time. They drugged and bound the other priests and called forth the Pharaoh for the ceremony of Dawn, to be celebrated at the heart of Egypt's first pyramid. Nahme and Anfret presided over the rite and all went well until the Pharaoh divined their true purpose. But the ceremony was already begun and the bonds of power, drawn from the Pharaoh's own person were too strong for even a God to surmount. Perhaps it was the Pharaoh's struggles that made the spell go awry.... Perhaps a piece of invocation had been misquoted... Or maybe Gods were just not meant to attain perfection. The spell failed. In an explosion of Dark and Light. The Pharaoh's human form and divine being were striped away, leaving an entity of blood and rage. Nahme's last mortal memory was of the once-Pharaoh's white-hot taloned hands squeezing the breath and life from his body.
Tormented by failure, a portion of Nahme's soul remained in the world, so he witnessed the true horror his actions had wrought. The Pharaoh was now corrupted, a vile and fiendish monster, and his lust for vengeance against his minions was unrelenting. Blood soaked the streets, flames leaped from every temple, and the beautiful Nefret was sacrificed to the Demon-King's insatiable thirst. Nahme's soul visited the dreams of his fellow priests, slipping them obscure visions of the tools to bind the Pharaoh forever within a tomb of stone. Driven by the Pharaoh's dementia, the remaining priests took advantage of the Pharaoh's new weaknesses and managed to slay him and bind his remains for eternity in the pyramid. The tradition of mummification was begun.
The destruction of the Pharaoh was not enough to lay Nahme's soul to rest. He continued to haunt the land of the living. In his wanderings he witnessed others make the same mistake... throwing off the yoke of an imperfect God, only to be rewarded with the birth of a Dark One.
2721 B.C. to 1100 A.D. - Wandering the Shadowlands
Nahme's soul wandered the Shadowlands, unable to rest or accept rebirth. His will was too strong. He remained a lost soul for millenia, wandering and watching the living and the undead. Eventually his intense desire to become embodied and pursue his obsession in the material world opened a door into a living body. He was able, for a short time, to "ride" in a human's body. Many centuries of practice allowed him to gain more control and stay in possession for longer and longer periods of time.
1100 to 1400 - A Monk's Life
During the middle ages Nahme focused on sampling the lives of various religious scholars and devotees. He transitioned from monks researching and studying the development of language and place names, to pilgrims constantly travelling. It was during this time that his interest in the search for news of strange occurrences and creatures like himself developed. He dedicated himself to identifying other archetypes that existed in an undying state, yet were linked to human culture, especially those that resembled the Dark Ones.
1730 to 1743 - Dr. Valentine Freeman of Paddington Court
His attempts to possess the bodies of the living permanently met with little success until he ran across one of his actual descendants. Nahme managed to take full and lasting possession of the body of Doctor Valentine Freeman. Once in a dependable body, he implemented a scheme in which he began laying years upon years of false trials for secret societies based in and around London, mostly associated with banks and far trading companies. The main reason was to begin to draw in and recruit would-be rival treasure/ancient lore seekers, and align them to his ultimate objective.

Freeman discovered a fellow immortal, Mr. Trevor MonteClaire, and became embroiled in the search for the man's abducted fiance.
