Mood of the Pandemonium UniverseIn whatever universe your characters inhabit, death is the ultimate motivating force in their lives (or unlives). Many try to avoid it, some brazenly taunt it, and a very few actively pursue it. In a vampire game, death is an even stronger force, because the characters are an actual embodiment of death. They have experienced death, they have wielded the scythe themselves, and they fear the ultimate and final death which pursues them at every turn. It is easiest to understand the mood of a vampire game if you keep this in mind; vampires are dead. Yet they still are walking around, haunting the night, lurking in alleyways, attending cocktail parties, playing twister... Creepy stuff, huh. For those of you who've played in a White Wolf or White Wolf Clone vampire game before, this is old news. (And in my opinion, the whole vampire/death facination issue has been discussed, ehem, to death. But if you're really interested, go check out one of the many Anne Rice interviews, [Some network once did a full-blown television docu-biography of Anne Rice's "life and art." Jeez, what a bore.] where you can find many more eloquent arguements than the ones presented here.) Remembering the death theme is the first step in playing your vampire character well. Whether or not your character realizes it, you should always keep it in mind. Enough of this mamby pamby drivel, let's go for some real Power.
